2021-2022

Invitation: Workshop on Business and Government in the Global Economy 2022

The Nexus of Business and Government in the Global Economy 2022 organized at ESSEC Singapore Campus by Srividya Jandhyala

On March 10 th and 11 th , the Nexus of Business and Government in the Global Economy 2022 was held at our Singapore Campus. After a break due to the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020, and a successful virtual edition in 2021, this year’s workshop continued to be virtual due to the sanitary restrictions in Singapore.

Thirty scholars including both faculty and doctoral students from schools across the world participated in the event. Eight presenters walked through very interesting papers centring around the topic of the relationship between companies and government. The final roundtable discussion explored future promising directions of research on the focal topic. The ESSEC faculty moderated the workshop (Srividya Jandhyala and Jamus Lim), joined as one of the discussants (Raffaele Conti), presented how companies perceive governments’ attempts to overcome institutional voids (Si Cheng), and gave insightful comments on the presentations (Arijit Chatterjee).

Special thanks to the organizers Prof. Srividya Jandhyala, Prof. Jamus Lim and Prof. Daniel Blake for a wonderful event full of great thoughts and exchanges.

  • 4th ESSEC-HEC-INSEAD Management Research Workshop organized at ESSEC CNIT Campus by the Management Department

On December 3rd, the 4th ESSEC-HEC-INSEAD Management Research Workshop took place at our La Defense Campus. After three previous successful workshop editions at ESSEC, HEC, and INSEAD from 2017 to 2019, and a break due to the sanitary conditions in 2020, this year’s workshop could resume in a full on-site mode while being vigilant of and complying with all sanitary requirements.

More than fifty participants consisting of faculty and doctoral students from the three schools enjoyed a full day of great research, food, and socializing. The presenter lineup included thirteen very interesting presentations about ongoing work from faculty of the three schools. The presentations exemplified the wide range of relevant topics tackled by the three faculties. The ESSEC faculty presentations comprised research on how objects are infused with status (Matt Cummins), on stakeholder disapproval of firms based on CEO characteristics (Mohamad Sadri), on paradigm as the nexus of social action (Fabrice Cavarretta), about how collectives prevent and manage conflicts (Vivianna Fang He), and on the impact of remote work on organizational performance (Maciej Workiewicz).

For doctoral students, the event was an excellent opportunity to learn more about current relevant research topics of the field, to enlarge the network by bonding with the doctoral students from the other schools, and get to know and exchange with different faculty members. The coffee breaks and the lunch break were ideal for relaxed conversations and to get valuable advice on how to approach research questions, how to succeed in the PhD, and on the publishing process.

Special thanks to the organizers Prof. Vivianna Fang He, Prof. Maciej Workiewicz, Prof. John Mawdsley, and Prof. Phebo Wibbens for an excellent event full of great insights, new contacts, and nice memories. We look forward to many more such on-site academic exchange days and to next year’s event, which will see HEC Paris organize the 5th edition!
